Pest control treats what's already inside
General pest control focuses on treatments and traps that address active pests. It is useful, but it does not address how those pests are getting in.
Rodent proofing prevents them from getting back in
Rodent proofing is about exclusion. It finds where rats and mice are entering the home and seals those openings with durable materials. Done well, it dramatically reduces the return of activity.
Why both usually go together
For most homes with active rodents, the right sequence is: identify the entry points, remove the current activity, seal the openings, and clean up any contamination. Skipping the sealing step is the reason so many rodent problems keep repeating.
What pest control alone often misses
Spray treatments and bait stations may reduce visible pests for a while, but open vents, garage corners, and roofline gaps stay open. New rodents follow the same paths, which is why activity often returns within weeks.
When to prioritize exclusion first
If you have already trapped repeatedly, see droppings in the same spots, or hear scratching after a recent treatment, prioritize a rodent entry point inspection. Closing access usually stops the cycle faster than another round of trapping alone.
